PromptCatalog Terms of Service

Last updated:

Updated to explain publishing, subscriptions, donations, moderation, and reuse with source credit, including AI adaptations.

Welcome to PromptCatalog (the “Website”). By accessing or using this Website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Website.

1. The Service & Your Account

PromptCatalog is a AI prompt publishing community. Visitors can read public prompts and profiles. Signed-in users can submit prompts, comment, rate prompts, follow or block authors, and subscribe to tags, subject to account permissions and these Community Rules. Our Privacy Policy explains data handling.

You must be at least 13 years old, or 16 in the European Union. If you are below the age of legal adulthood where you live, use the service only with any parent or guardian permission required by law. Keep your sign-in account secure, provide accurate account information, and do not impersonate others.

Profiles and selected activity and interest information are public. Follow and block actions are community preferences, not a guarantee that another person cannot access your public content. Keep a separate copy of work you want to preserve.

2. Changes to These Terms

We will post revisions with a fixed “Last updated” date and identify material changes on this page. Changes apply prospectively; changing these Terms does not by itself grant new rights over earlier contributions. Where law requires additional notice or agreement, we will obtain it. If you do not accept revised terms, stop submitting content and contact us about closing your account.

3. Publishing & Acceptable Use

New prompts start unpublished. Publication and rejection are controlled by account permissions. Significant edits to a published title or prompt, or changes to its tags, can return it to unpublished status. Publication is not guaranteed, and approval is not a certification that every claim is correct.

Use accurate titles and relevant tags. Do not publish unlawful material, malware, stolen content, confidential information, spam, or deceptive promotions. Do not manipulate ratings or followers, evade account restrictions, bypass access controls, or interfere with the Website.

Search indexing is allowed within our published crawler instructions. Automated access must respect those instructions and must not overload the service or access restricted material. Contact us about bulk collection. Permission to reuse content under section 4 does not grant permission to bypass technical restrictions or collect users' personal information.

4. Content Ownership, Reuse & Republication

You may reuse or republish our content. Credit PromptCatalog and include a visible link to the original page on PromptCatalog. No separate permission is needed for content covered by this policy.

Authors retain ownership of their work. For content owned by PromptCatalog or authorized by its creators for this policy, we grant a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to copy, share, republish, translate, and adapt the content, in whole or in part, for personal or commercial purposes, provided you credit PromptCatalog as the source and link to the original page.

Place the credit with the reused content so readers can easily find it. Online, the source link must be clickable; in print or other formats without clickable links, include the original page's full URL. For example: Source: PromptCatalog — [link to the original prompt].

Please also credit the named author and identify translations or other changes. Do not present someone else's work as your own or imply that PromptCatalog or the author endorses your use.

AI Rewriting Does Not Remove the Source Credit Requirement

If you reuse or adapt our content under this permission, you must credit PromptCatalog and link to the original page even if you use AI or another tool to rewrite, paraphrase, summarize, translate, restructure, or combine it with other material. Changing the wording, headings, examples, or format does not waive these conditions. The same rule applies to manual rewrites.

Do not use these techniques to conceal the source or present adapted content as independently created work. An AI tool's output is not a substitute for permission from the rights holder. Reuse under this policy without the required source credit and link is not authorized.

This requirement applies to reuse of our protected content; it does not claim ownership of facts, general ideas, or independently created explanations of the same topic. The exceptions for uses permitted by applicable law below still apply.

This permission covers prompts and their original illustrations and code examples where we have the necessary rights. Third-party images, quotations, embedded media, and material carrying a separate license remain subject to their owners' terms. It does not grant rights to use our name or logo as your own branding. Content submitted before this policy took effect is covered only where its rights holder has authorized this reuse; if that is unclear, contact us before republishing it.

Nothing in this policy limits uses allowed by applicable law, including fair use, fair dealing, or use of public-domain material. For questions about coverage or uses without source attribution, contact us through our Contacts page.

5. Your Content & Copyright Reports

You retain ownership of content you submit. By submitting content under these Terms, you grant PromptCatalog a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store, display, format, and distribute it to operate the Website. For public content you submit under these Terms, you also authorize the reuse and republication described in section 4. Private contact messages are not covered by that public reuse permission.

Submit only content you own or have permission to publish and license in this way. Clearly identify any third-party material and its applicable license. Updating these Terms does not by itself relicense content submitted under earlier terms.

You can request removal of your content through our Contacts page. Removal from the Website does not automatically remove copies already lawfully republished by others.

To report a copyright concern, use our Contacts page. Identify the original work, the URL of the disputed content, your relationship to the rights holder, and how we can contact you. Explain why you believe the use is unauthorized. We may request further information and remove or restrict disputed content while reviewing a report. Do not include sensitive identity documents in the initial message.

6. Subscriptions, Donations & External Services

Tag subscriptions can send publication notifications to your account email. Manage or remove them with the subscription controls or the Interests section of your profile. We do not guarantee email delivery or notification timing.

Authors can add an optional Buy Me a Coffee username to display donation links. Donations are handled by the external provider and go to the author; PromptCatalog does not process those payments or currently take a commission. Provider fees and terms may apply. A donation does not buy ownership of content, publication approval, or preferential moderation. No earnings are guaranteed.

For payment problems or refunds, contact the recipient or payment provider. Authors are responsible for their own donation account and applicable tax obligations. Third-party websites, sign-in services, and linked resources have their own terms and privacy policies.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Website is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Website will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free from viruses. Prompts are educational material; verify examples and technical advice before using them in production.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PromptCatalog and its owners, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use or inability to use the Website.

9. Responsibility for Contributions

You are responsible for what you submit, the rights needed to publish it, and the accuracy of claims you make. If a report concerns your contribution, we may request an explanation or evidence of your rights. Responsibility for losses or third-party claims is determined by applicable law; these Terms do not impose an unlimited indemnity on ordinary users.

10. Governing Law

Applicable law determines the governing law and courts with jurisdiction over a dispute. Nothing in these Terms excludes mandatory consumer protections or other rights that cannot lawfully be waived. You may contact us to try to resolve a concern before bringing a claim; doing so is not a condition for exercising your legal rights.

11. Moderation & Account Closure

We may reject submissions, restrict content, or ban accounts for violations, abuse, or legal reasons. Restrictions may be applied immediately where needed to protect the service or other people. Decisions can involve human review and account permissions; we do not promise to review every contribution before it appears.

To report a problem or request review of a moderation decision, use Contacts with the relevant profile or prompt URL and a concise explanation. Do not include private details in public comments. There is no separate automated appeal or account deletion tool; you can request account closure and content removal through Contacts, subject to applicable rights and retention requirements.

12. Contact

If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us via our Contacts page.
